Welcome to IDE
IDE – Institute of Spatial Dynamics is a
research institute incorporated in the Department of Geography and Spatial
Planning, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of Univesidade Nova de
Lisboa. The institute was created in 1988 by a group of professors of the Department in order to develop
projects and scientific studies in the field of Geography and Regional and
Urban planning. IDE is composed by highly recognized researchers working in the
following scientific domains:
Major objectives of the research institute are:
- Territorial management;
- Tranport and logistics;
- Ports and maritime transport;
- Comercial urbanism;
- Geographic information systems;
- Geoeconomics;
- Physical geography and environment;
- Coastal management;
Major objectives of the research institute are:
- Development of scientific research projects in the fields of specialization in order to achieve practical and innovative solutions which could contribute to efficient management and evolution of a particular territory (use-inspired basic research);
- Conducting research for private and public entities at local, regional and national levels, in particular dedicated to various issues of territorial management;
- Cooperation with transnational and european programs together with other research bodies in order to promote coherence, social and economic integration of Portugal in the EU, and to contribute to sustainable development of the european territory in general. IDE is also involved in a number of international projects, especially in the framework of INTERREG and PALOP;
- Promotion of scientific reunions at national and international levels (workshops, seminars, conferences and courses) dedicated to research domains of IDE and organized not only for scientific community, but also for specialists from different areas, thus favoring life-long learning and continuous education;
- Publication of scientific articles, acts and books connected with research projects or scientific reunions
